Graduates of the study programme Teaching Mathematics (combined) can find employment as a teacher of mathematics at the second level of primary schools and secondary schools. He/she can find employment as a teacher of regional education within the meaning of Act 138/2019 Coll. on pedagogical employees and professional employees.
Due to the fact that the subject of mathematics is highly represented (in terms of hours) in the national curriculum, schools of regional education need qualified graduates. On the other hand, it can be seen (source: central, official website
https://uplatnenie.sk/ - filtering by state program) that the number of graduates produced annually by such a program (approx. 60) is well below labor market expectations. This implies a high employment potential for graduates of the study programme.
Graduates of the study programme, when assessing their employability on the labour market, will fall into the category "011 Education" according to the International Standard Classification of Education: Fields of Education and Training 2013.

Feedback with a focus on examining the quality of the study programme Mathematics teacher training in combination is implemented continuously by teachers providing the study programme. It is carried out individually during working visits of teachers of Mathematics based on structured interviews between teachers of Mathematics, management of primary and secondary schools, employees of methodological centres and training schools and the teachers of the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Education, JSU with a focus on the quality of the composition of the study programme and the quality of the profiling components of the graduates.
The UJS Career Counselling Centre plans to carry out a survey in 2022 on the application of UJS graduates in practice among employers.
The study programme has a 2-year standard length. The study programme Mathematics Teacher Training (Combined) is assigned to study field 38. Teaching and Educational Sciences. The content of the study programme coincides with or is based on the description of the field of study and the supporting themes of the core of knowledge according to Decree No. 244/2019 Coll. are maintained, the setting of the study programme is based on the profile of the graduate of the field of study. The structure of the study plan and the content of the courses (Study Programme and Course Information Sheets) is harmonised in accordance with the Order of the Rector of J. Selye University No. 16/2021 Methodological Instruction for the Creation, Harmonisation and Adjustment of Study Programmes at J. Selye University.
The study plan of the study programme is available in the Academic Information System of UJS in modules:
The study plan for the current academic year is published on the faculty website:
https://www.ujs.sk/sk/studium/studijnne-programy/pedagogicka-fakulta.html
After the alignment of the Mathematics Teaching (Level II) SP with the adjustment, newly admitted students will enter the aligned SP at the beginning of the next academic year and will study according to the courses and rules after the adjustment, while second and third year students will continue to study the aligned SP according to the original recommended study plan and the courses to which they were admitted.
The student is obliged to complete all compulsory subjects of the study programme and to complete as many subjects from the block of compulsory elective subjects of the study programme as to obtain at least 39 credits from the study programme (approbation), except for the subject Diploma Seminar (according to the order of the Rector of the J. Selye University No. 16/2021 Methodological Instruction for the Creation, Harmonisation and Modification of Study Programmes at the J. Selye University). There are no elective subjects in the SP. The Diploma Seminar course is assigned to the subject from which the student is writing the diploma thesis - and therefore credit will be given in this study programme if the student is writing a diploma thesis in mathematics. The same applies to the subject of the state examination: thesis defence. In order to complete the study programme properly, the state examination of the SP must also be taken.
The subjects of the study programme are listed in the Study Plan.
Profile subjects of the study programme (approbations) are compulsory subjects of the study programme (listed in the Study Plan).
In information sheets of all educational parts/subjects are exactly described requirements on their completion as well as learning outputs (in detail characterization of outputs of knowledge, skills, competences) which gains student after completion of an educational part/subject.
The prerequisites for the subjects of the state examination are profile subjects and completion of the compulsory educational parts/subjects of the study programme.
The information sheets of all educational units/subjects clearly declare the educational activity as well as the forms of its implementation, which ensures the achievement of the expected learning outcomes.
In the majority of cases of educational units/subjects, the educational activity - lecture and/or seminar - is preferred; subjects such as teaching practice, Bachelor’s Thesis and state examination subjects are dealt with in other forms.
In the information sheets of all educational parts/subjects, the method of education is clearly declared as "face-to-face", however, in view of the current epidemiological situation, we consider it necessary and natural to carry out the given educational activities in a distance and/or combined method, if necessary.
Ouutline/syllabus a compulsory part of the information sheets of all courses.
In the preparation of the educational parts/subjects of the submitted study programme, we have taken into account the workload of students, in accordance with the ECTS, depending on the credits allocated and the time scale in which the education will take place. One credit corresponds to 25 to 30 hours of student work (according to the Order of the Rector of J. Selye University No. 16/2021 Methodological instruction for the creation, harmonisation and modification of study programmes at J. Selye University). This represents a typical workload (the actual time required to achieve the learning outcomes may vary from student to student).
In the case of higher-credit educational units/subjects where the hourly allocation of full-time teaching is not in line with the student's workload, additional learning tasks are defined, which are solved by the student through guided self-study under the guidance of the teacher, and subsequent demonstration of the learning outcomes, which have been set out in the course information sheet.
Persons organizing subjects are specified in the information sheets of subjects.
Teachers of subjects are specified in the information sheets of subjects.
The study programme is accredited at the PF UJS, provided by teachers of the Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Economics and Informatics of UJS and is carried out at UJS in Komárno.
For compulsory courses, the student receives 80 credits. Out of these, 72credits are for the courses and teaching practice (27 credits from the first major programme, 27 from the second major programme, and 12 from the courses from general pedagogy), in addition, the student must pass the state exam for 8 credits (out of which 3 credits are received for the first major programme, 3 for the second major, and 2 from the courses from general pedagogy).
As for majors, the difference may be 1-2 extra credits, or at the expense of compulsory subjects, but these are compensated by the offer of compulsory optional subjects. The sum of credits for compulsory and compulsory optional subjects remains constant: 175 credits.
The student receives 37 credits for compulsory optional courses. Out of these, 29 credits are for courses and teaching practice (13 credits from the first major - from which the student writes a final thesis, 9 credits from the second major and 7credits from the courses from general pedagogy), in addition, the student must defend a bachelor's thesis from one major for 8 credits.
The student signs up for optional courses from the list of courses from general pedagogy offered by the whole faculty in the number of minimum 3 credits for bachelor's studies.
120 credits are required for graduation, out of which 54 are from one major programme (from which the student writes a Master's thesis), 42f rom the second major, and 4 credits are from the courses from general pedagogy.
The student receives 12 credits for the bachelor’s thesis and the defense of the bachelor’s thesis (out of which 4 for working on the Master's thesis within the course Masterr's Thesis Seminar, and 8 for the defense of the thesis).
The student receives 12 credits for teaching practice (6 credits in one approbation and 6 credits in the other approbation).
From the study programme (approbation) Teaching Mathematics in Combination to successfully complete the student must complete all compulsory courses of the approbation (6 pcs, total credits 26), must obtain at least 39 cumulative credits from the approbation (from compulsory and compulsory elective courses without credits for the Diploma Seminar, State Examination and Diploma Thesis with defence), successfully complete the teaching practice of the approbation, pass the Diploma Seminar if the Diploma Thesis is written from the approbation, successfully complete the State Examination and defend the Diploma Thesis if the Diploma Thesis is written from the approbation.
The number of courses and credits are determined according to the Rector of J. Selye University Order No. 16/2021 Methodological Instruction for the Creation, Harmonisation and Adjustment of Study Programmes at J. Selye University.
The participation of students in pedagogical practice is obligatory, one of the pair of courses Pedagogical Practice IV and V is obligatory (i.e. the student, according to the determined schedule, completes the practice either in the winter or summer semester), the course Pedagogical Practice VI means a continuous exit practice for the student and its completion is obligatory.
The number of credits for individual subjects of the study programme is specified in the Study Plan.
Verification of learning outcomes and evaluation of students is carried out in accordance with the UJS Study Regulations (Article 10), which states:
"The course may be completed by: a) passing, b) assessment, c) examination." (Article 10, points 4-7, UJS Study Regulations)
Graduation and grades for individual courses are obtained by the student after fulfilling all prescribed obligations. In case of failure to fulfil all the prescribed obligations, the student may request the teacher to obtain them at an alternative date. The substitute date will be determined by the instructor. (Article 10, points 9., UJS Study Regulations)
The evaluation of the student's study results within the study of the subject is carried out according to the classification scale and success criteria (Article 10, point 3., Study Regulations of UJS).
A student has the right to one regular and two make-up examination dates in a given subject in a given semester in which the subject is enrolled, within the announced examination dates and the academic year schedule.
"At the request of the student or the examiner, the dean shall, in justified cases (e.g. bias), allow the examination to be conducted on a make-up date before a committee appointed by the dean after the opinion of the head of the relevant scientific-pedagogical department. A board examination may be requested in writing, always stating the reason, from the faculty's study department before the end of the examination period. The board examination is not an additional examination term; it must be carried out within the time limits of the remedial terms. The original examining teacher shall be a member of the board, as well as a student representative with an advisory vote." (Article 10, point 17, UJS Study Regulations)
"If serious circumstances (e.g. illness) have prevented a student from attending an examination or obtaining an assessment during the semester and these duties cannot be performed within the time limit for the given term, the student may request an alternative examination (assessment) date in writing on the AIS form, as a rule, within five working days from the last day of the examination period of the semester in question. The Dean will set a deadline by which the obligation must be carried out (including make-up dates). The make-up date shall be treated as the date it replaces." (Article 10, point 18, UJS Study Regulations)
The method of archiving documents proving the fulfilment of learning outcomes is regulated by the Rector's Directive No. 4/2021 on archiving documents proving the fulfilment of learning outcomes. The Directive is available in the Academic Information System of UJS.

UJS provides its students and staff with access to the Internet via the SANET high-speed academic network. Connection is secured both with person-to-person authentication to the UJS network or with per-person device registration. Students have free access to computers and the Internet in specialised classrooms and in the UJS University Library, they also have access to computers and the Internet in publicly accessible places in the form of computer kiosks in UJS buildings, which are in operation all day. Internet access is also provided in the form of wi-fi connection available in all UJS buildings, including dormitories. The network is part of the EDUROAM project and allows access to the network for users of the institutions involved in the project. Multifunctional devices for printing, scanning and copying documents via the SafeQ system, secured with ISIC card readers, are placed in publicly accessible locations.
The university operates its own email server, each student and staff member has an email, address book, calendar and file sharing option in their profile. Staff and student email credentials (login name and password) are also used to log into the network, to log into the wi-fi zone, to authorised areas of the website, to the SafeQ printing system, to the catering system and to other services.
The most important information resources and systems of UJS:
1. Library information system DAWINCI - a modern library-information system, the system provides users with access to individual library collections through the OnLine OPAC catalogue via a web interface. The record of readers is kept through the student/employee card of UJS.
2. Academic Information System AiS2 - The Academic Information System is a comprehensive information system designed primarily for the management of all three levels of university studies and the support of the management of science and research at universities. Almost all functionalities of the system are used in connection with the implementation of the study programme, e.g.:
- electronic application (from electronic submission of the application form through electronic returns to enrolment),
- comprehensive registration of studies,
- registration of study programmes,
- registration of final theses (with automatic transfer of all final theses of students to the central register of final theses),
- registration of student accommodation,
-an administrative subsystem for publishing all documents in the Authorised Zone, and for creating and evaluating student surveys,
- graduate portal.
At the management level, the AIS serves as a tool to ensure study planning and a resource for reporting on teaching and for measuring the educational performance of departments and staff.
3. Financial information system SOFIA - a module of the system is interconnected with the AIS system in the area of registration of all student payments and in the area of payment of scholarships for students.
4. Access to electronic databases - under the auspices of CVTI SR, selected database collections of electronic information resources are made available. Access of students and teachers to the necessary databases is also solved by remote access via CVTI SR. Access to foreign scientific journals available in the on-line databases of individual publishers is also provided through this access.
5. Personal Identification System - This system provides user access to individual information systems and electronic services on the basis of a uniformly determined login (login name and password). This solution also includes an identification card based on a contactless smart card (student card and employee card). These cards are used in the printing system, in the catering system and also allow access to rooms with a secure access system.
6. Learning Management System (LMS) portal Moodle: an educational platform providing university teachers with a tool to support e-learning. Access to the system is only possible using single sign-on credentials. It is a secure and complete e-learning support tool.
7. BigBlueButton faculty web conferencing system supporting online learning.
Student awareness is ensured:
The University Library of J. Selye University provides access to the study literature for the study programme, at least to the extent of the compulsory literature listed in the course information sheets. At present, the UJS University of Applied Sciences holds more than 12 206 titles related to pedagogy, didactics and psychology of the submitted study programme and related to the field of study. Library website: http://uk.ujs.sk/
UJS uses the library information system DAWINCI - library-information system, the system provides users with access to individual library collections through the OnLine catalogue OPAC via a web interface. The record of readers is kept through the UJS student/employee ID card.
Access to electronic databases: under the auspices of CVTI SR, selected database collections of electronic information resources are made available. Access of students and lecturers to the necessary databases is also solved by remote access via CVTI SR. Access to foreign scientific journals available in the on-line databases of individual publishers is also provided through this access.
At UJS is the access secured by the system of identification of persons allowing them access to individual information systems and electronic servises based on uniquely given login data (login name and password). A part of this solution is also the identification card based on contactless smart card (identification card of student or employee). These cards are used in printing system, eating system and at the same time they enable access to the rooms equipped with secure access system.
For needs of distance education or education in the combined form the university uses four servers with video conference system BigBlueButton. FEI JSU uses for security of activities the following:
bigbluebutton.ujs.sk/b – access is possible also without authorization (name and password)

FEI JSU created and applied an inner system of ensuring of education quality at faculty level related to university rules. The prior aim of this system is ensuring, monitoring and development of quality of education from the global point of view of faculty activities.
According to § 70, part 1, letter h) of the law no. 131/2002 Z. z. on universities a student has a right to declare his opinion on the quality of education and teachers in an anonymous form at least once in a year. Students of FEI JSU have possibility have this possibility concerning each subject in their study plan and each teacher every semester, i.e. twice in a year. The anonymous questionnaire is available for students in AIS JSU.
After completing is the inquiry automatically evaluated by the system. It is done at various levels:
The results of inquiry yield actions performed on individual level.
We also received feedback from the results of the Academic Quarterly survey. The aim of the nationwide student satisfaction survey Academic Quarter Hour was to map the views of undergraduate students in first and second cycle studies/joint studies on teaching and conditions at their school. Thanks to the questionnaire, the Slovak Higher Education Accreditation Agency received feedback on how to improve teaching and study conditions at our school.
The results of the Academic Quarter Hour survey are available here:

Feedback from graduates on improving the quality of the study programme is carried out continuously by practicing teachers, graduates of UJS. It is carried out in an individual form during working visits of mathematics teachers on the basis of structured interviews focusing on the quality of the curriculum composition and the quality of the profiling components of graduates. The information obtained is evaluated during the working sessions of the Department of Mathematics by its members.
