2. - Graduate profile and learning objectives
a) - The institution defines the learning objectives of the study programme such as student's abilities at the time of completion of the programme and the main learning outcomes.

A graduate of the first level of university studies in the field of teacher training and education science, English language and literature teacher training in combination is eligible to be a teacher’s assistant.

The qualification of the graduate corresponds to the relevant level of education according to the qualification framework. The goals and measurable educational outputs correspond to the level of the Slovak Qualification Framework in the European Higher Education Area: first degree – Bc., SKKR level 6. Graduates of teacher training study programmes have knowledge of the biological, psychological and social aspects of individual development, know and understand the concept of the institutional socialization process in broader social science contexts. Other specifics of a graduate of the first level of the professional field are contained in the Description of the field Teacher Training and Education Science, which is found in Decree 244/2019 Coll. on the system of study fields of the Slovak Republic.

The graduate knows how to cooperate with a teacher, educator, and master of vocational training in planning and projecting educational activities. The graduate knows the structure and controls the content of the disciplines of their specialization, knows the basics of didactics, and knows how to assess the possibilities of cooperation with other experts and institutions. The graduate knows how to orientate themselves in theoretical knowledge of the educational process, orientate themselves in pedagogical documentation, evaluate the course and results of an educational activity, theoretically justify the choice of teaching methods, the application of principles and the choice of methods and forms of assessment of learning and student behaviour.

The graduate can identify the developmental and individual characteristics and individual educational needs of the individual, accept the individuality of a student, and has basic practical experience in identifying the psychological and social factors of learning of an individual. The graduate can effectively use information and communication technologies in the educational process.

Graduates of the first degree of study master basic have knowledge in the field of their subject specialization, in its construction, and have adequate theoretical and practical knowledge of selected chemical disciplines (general, inorganic, analytical, physical, organic, nuclear chemistry and biochemistry). They also have basic knowledge of mathematics and biology, which they can use to understand the interdisciplinary connections of the subject.

The graduate has basic scientific knowledge in profile educational areas or specializations of his activity. The graduate can classify chemical compounds and chemical transformations, can identify the chemical composition of substances, explain their structure and chemical properties. (S)he can identify and use the basic conceptual, categorical and methodological apparatus of chemistry. The graduate can find connections between the properties of chemical substances and their transformations and can determine the expected products of chemical reactions at theoretical level. (S)he has the necessary knowledge of mathematics and other natural science disciplines, and uses them in the process of understanding and explaining chemical phenomena. (S)he has knowledge and skills in solving basic chemical calculations, knows how to creatively use schemes, models, methods and tools of chemistry.

(S)he has knowledge and practical skills in the use of basic laboratory techniques, safe experimental activities that serve as a basis for practice and research. (S)he has knowledge of chemical syntheses in the field of selected disciplines of chemistry, which are necessary for a deeper understanding of individual chemical and biological processes and for the further professional preparation of chemistry teacher graduates. (S)he has practical skills in the field of laboratory activities, acquired as part of mandatory laboratory exercises. (S)he can implement solutions to methodological, professional and practical problems of chemistry. When solving basic chemical problems and specific professional problems, individual elements of analytical, critical and conceptual thinking are successfully applied. The graduate is characterized by creative thinking, independence in solving basic chemical problems, planning his/her own further education, autonomy and responsibility in decision-making in connection with the subject of the combined chemistry teaching study program.

(S)he can work effectively, independently, understands the ethical, social context and legal consequences of his/hew own activity. A graduate of the bachelor's study program of teaching chemistry in combination in the field of study 38 Teaching and pedagogical sciences is ready to continue further studies at the 2nd stage of higher education of this study program.

Successful graduates of the study program are Bc. Gelle Donát, Bc. Csobó Zoltán, Bc. Nikoleta Némethová, Bc. Daniel Reménység – all could represent successfully the Chemistry Department of JSU within various rounds of Student Research and Professional Activities(ŠVOČ).

c) - Evaluation of the study programme quality by employers (feedback).

Feedback having focus on examining the quality of the chemistry teaching study program in combination is carried out continuously by teachers of the SP. It is carried out individually during working visits of chemistry teachers and on the basis of structured interviews between chemistry teachers, primary and secondary school leaders, MPC and training school workers and teachers of the Department of Chemistry JSU with a focus on the quality of the composition of the study program and the quality of the profiling components of the graduates.

Information on employers' satisfaction with JSU graduates is also monitored by the JSU Career Counselling Centre. A survey is currently underway, in which employers of graduates of the chemistry teaching study program in a combination of I. and II. degree. 4. - Structure and content of the study programme
a) - The institution describes the rules for the design of study plans within the study programme.

The study program of Chemistry Teaching chemistry in Combination is an organic part of the study Teaching and Pedagogical Sciences. The study is intended to provide basic professional education in the field of pedagogical theory and practice and selected disciplines of chemistry. The subjects of the study program are designed to proportionally cover topics of social science, pedagogical and psychological basis of teaching and subject approvals.

The student of the study program within fulfilling the requirements of the study program or after completing it completely and obtaining the required minimum number of credits creates his/her own study plan, for which in addition to the compulsory subjects chooses also compulsory-optional and optional subjects according to the required professional needs and interests. The profile subjects are defined in the study plan, which are a necessary condition for a successful completion of the study. The content of the study program with regard to the education of chemical disciplines consists of a theoretical and practical part, which are carried out in relevant forms of education (lectures and/or seminars and/or exercises). The specific way of teaching subjects - forms, methods, graduation criteria, educational outcomes, as well as content is detailed in the subject information sheets of the submitted study program.


b) - The institution compiles the recommended study plans for individual study paths.

After the harmonization of the combined SP teaching chemistry (1st grade) including adjustments, any newly admitted students will commence the harmonized SP at the beginning of the next academic year and will conduct studies according to the subjects and rules after adjustments, while students of the second and third years continue studying the harmonized SP according to the original recommended study plan and subjects for which they were accepted.


c) - The study plan generally states:

The student completes compulsory subjects (General chemistry, Inorganic chemistry, Analytical chemistry, Organic chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical chemistry, Chemistry of foreign substances, Basics of laboratory technology, Practical exercise in inorganic chemistry, Practical exercise in analytical chemistry, Practical exercise in organic chemistry, Practical exercise in biochemistry), chooses subjects from among mandatory optional subjects (Repetition of secondary school chemistry, Repetition of secondary school mathematics, Fundamentals of mathematics, Mathematics for chemists, Chemical calculations, Solving chemical problems, Selected chapters in organic chemistry, Reaction mechanisms in organic chemistry, Selected chapters in biochemistry , Basics of molecular biology, History of chemistry, Practical course of physical chemistry) and elective subjects from the offer of study programs PF JSU. The student completes state subjects, in which he demonstrates his knowledge and skills from individual chemical disciplines completed during his bachelor's studies, and from the defending the final thesis, during which (s)he demonstrates basic competence in solving scientific-professional, or pedagogical research.



Profile subjects are: General chemistry, Inorganic chemistry, Analytical chemistry, Organic chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical chemistry, Basics of laboratory technology, State examination in chemistry, Bachelor thesis with defence.


The course information sheets clearly describe the requirements for completing them, as well as the educational outcomes (detailed knowledge, skills, and competence outcomes) that the graduate will acquire after completing the educational part/subject.


Continuity of individual profile subjects is given by the logical arrangement of profile subjects in individual semesters of the study plan. Practical exercises of selected chemical disciplines follow the profile subject Basics of laboratory technology. Prerequisites for state exam subjects are profile subjects and completion of compulsory educational parts/subjects of the study program.


Educational activities are clearly declared in the information sheets of subjects, by which the PF JSU ensures the achievement of expected educational outcomes. Subjects are implemented in relevant forms of education (lectures and/or seminars and/or exercises) according to the nature of the subject. The current epidemiological situation required the conduction of theoretical teaching (lectures and seminars) also in distant form that may be applicable for similar situations in the future again.

During the preparation of the educational parts/subjects of the presented study program, the workload of students was taken in account in accordance with ECTS, depending on the assigned credits and the time frame in which the education will take place.

According to Rector's Order no. 16/2021, which issued methodological instructions for the creation, coordination and adjustment of study programs at J. Selye University, for 1 semester of full-time study according to the recommended study plan, the student receives 30 credits. The workload of the students is planned so that one credit awarded for completing the subject corresponds to 25 to 30 hours of student work. This represents a typical student workload, but the actual time required to achieve learning outcomes and goals may vary from student to student.


For educational parts/subjects having higher credits and where the requirements of face-to-face teaching were disagreeing with the student's workload, the declared learning tasks, assignments, outputs are solved by the student through controlled self-study under the guidance of the teacher, and subsequent demonstration of knowledge or skills that were predetermined in the assignments.

d) - The institution states the number of credits, the achievement of which is a condition for proper completion of studies and other requirements that the student must meet within the study programme and for its proper completion, including the requirements for state examinations, rules for re-study and rules for the extension, interruption of study.
Number of credits required for proper completion of studies: 180. Any requirements imposed on students during the course of the study program and for its proper completion, including the organization of state exams, rules for repeating studies and rules for extending and interrupting studies are regulated by the JSU Study Regulations.
e) - For individual study plans, the institution states the requirements for completing the individual parts of the study programme and the student's progress within the study programme in the given structure:

For compulsory courses, the student receives 122 credits. Of these, 116 credits are given for the courses and teaching practice (50 credits from the first major programme, 50 from the second major programme, and 16 from the courses from general pedagogy), in addition, the student must pass the state exam for 6 credits (out of which 2 credits are received for the first major programme, 2 for the second major, and 2 from the courses from general pedagogy).

As for majors, the difference may be 1-2 extra credits, or at the expense of compulsory subjects, but these are compensated by the offer of compulsory optional subjects. The sum of credits for compulsory and compulsory optional subjects remains constant: 175 credits.


The student receives 53 credits for compulsory optional courses. Out of these, 49 credits are for courses and teaching practice (19 credits from the first major - from which the student writes a final thesis, 15 credits from the second major and 11 credits from the courses from general pedagogy), in addition, the student must defend a bachelor's thesis from one major for 8 credits.


The student signs up for optional courses from the list of courses from general pedagogy offered by the whole faculty in the number of minimum 5 credits for bachelor's studies.


180 credits are required for graduation, out of which 79 are from one major programme (from which the student writes a bachelor's thesis), 67 from the second major, and 34 credits are from the courses from general pedagogy.


The student receives 12 credits for the bachelor’s thesis and the defence of the bachelor’s thesis (out of which 4 for working on the bachelor's thesis within the course Bachelor's Thesis Seminar, and 8 for the thesis defence).


The student receives 3 credits for teaching practice within general pedagogy.


f) - The institution describes the rules for verification of learning outcomes, students assessment and the possibilities of appealing against the assessment.

Rules, criteria and evaluation methods are transparent, communicated by the teacher in advance, they are listed in individual information sheets of the subjects. The conditions for completing subjects clearly state the student's study and other obligations during achieving the educational goals, the form of fulfilling study obligations and the criteria for evaluating partial outputs and products. Student assessment results are recorded, documented and archived. The rules and procedures of the evaluation process are declared in the JSU Study Regulations (full text with additions). The rules and procedures for archiving documents proving the fulfilment of educational outcomes are determined by the Rector's Directive no. 4/2021 on the archiving of documents proving the fulfilment of educational outcomes.

During lessons students receive feedback from the teacher and space to correct mistakes, as well as guidance on eliminating them and achieving goals. Students have the opportunity to find out their own assessment in a continuous formative form in consultation with the teacher and cumulatively via AIS, or via the Moodle platform.

Students have the opportunity to utilize consultation hours of teachers during each semester of their study. Students have access to tutor consultations, for which examples of good practice suggest that students can use the consultation hours to progress and achieve better results.

In the case of unsuccessful fulfilment of educational prerequisites, students have access to two remedial dates in addition to one regular term, they have the option of taking a commission exam completed within three terms. The stated rules are declared in the JSU Study Regulations, as well as other procedures and rules relating to credits, their collection and transfer. Administrative control of studies in the academic information system is carried out by the Study Department according to the procedures described in the JSU Study Regulations.

On February 9, 2022, the JSU Academic Senate approved the new Study Regulations, which will enter into force and effect at the beginning of the new academic year, on September 1, 2022.

The JSU Study Regulations describe the procedures and rules for obtaining credits, their collection and transfer, which is in accordance with the European Credit Transfer System. Similarly, the rules and procedures for recognizing completed courses at another university are defined.

Study/research stay, upon which we declare our support for domestic and foreign student mobilities. The JSE Study Regulations describe clearly the procedures and rules for obtaining credits, their collection and transfer, which is in accordance with the European Credit Transfer System. Similarly, rules and procedures for recognizing completed courses at another university are defined.

In order to increase the number of participants in Erasmus+ mobility, the Section for International Relations in cooperation with faculties of the university organizes regular informative Erasmus+ days and workshops and offers the possibility of personal or online consultation. Promotional materials are distributed to JSU students and information is regularly published through the university information channels.

The rules and procedures are formulated in the Rector's Directive no. 3/2014 on the organization of foreign mobility of students, teachers and employees within the Erasmus+ program at JSU, available in the Academic Information System JSU Documents/JSU-legislation/Internal management acts, year 2018, number 10).


In the study programme, the university applies the rules and tools of ensuring research integrity and preventing plagiarism and other academic fraud. According to the JSU Statute, plagiarism is considered a misdemeanour and is subject to disciplinary proceedings. The university identifies violations of research integrity, plagiarism and academic fraud and implements measures to ensure that violating these rules is incompatible with obtaining an academic degree. Rules and procedures are described in the Statute of the Faculty of Education JSU, available in the Academic Information System JSU Documents/JSU - legislation/Internal regulations, year 2020, number 3), the JSU Code of Ethics available in the Academic Information System JSU JSU Documents/JSU-legislation/Internal regulations, year 2013, number 11) and the Disciplinary Rules for Students (available in the Academic Information System JSU Documents/JSU-legislation/Internal regulations).


In accordance with the current trends, the university systematically searches for and addresses students with specific needs and records an observable increase in the number of these students. Students with special needs are eligible for support services based on their specific needs. The rules and procedures are described in the Rector's Directive no. 7/2016 on students with specific needs and on the scope of activities of the JSU coordinator for students with specific needs, available in the Academic Information System JSU Documents/JSU-legislation/Internal management acts, year 2016, number 9).

According to the JSU Statute, a student becomes a member of the academic community by enrolling in one of the study programmes offered by the JSU or its faculty. As a member of the academic community based on the JSU Statute, the student has the right to address proposals, comments and complaints to academic self-governing bodies – the procedures and rules of which are defined in their legislative documents. The students of the study programme are provided with effective mechanisms for reviewing initiatives by which they demand the protection of their rights or interests protected by law, which they believe have been violated, or point to specific shortcomings in the activities or inaction of the university. The review of suggestions is transparent and takes place with the participation of student representatives. Feedback on the results of the review of the suggestions and the measures taken is provided to the submitters of the suggestions.

8. - Spatial, material, and technical provision of the study programme and support
a) - List and characteristics of the study programme classrooms and their technical equipment with the assignment to learning outcomes and courses (laboratories, design and art studios, studios, workshops, interpreting booths, clinics, priest seminaries, science and technology parks, technology incubators, school enterprises, practice centers, training schools, classroom-training facilities, sports halls, swimming pools, sports grounds).
b) - Characteristics of the study programme information management (access to study literature according to Course information sheets, access to information databases and other information sources, information technologies, etc.).
c) - Characteristics and extent of distance education applied in the study programme with the assignment to courses. Access, manuals of e-learning portals. Procedures for the transition from contact teaching to distance learning.
d) - Institution partners in providing educational activities for the study programme and the characteristics of their participation.
e) - Characteristics of the possibilities for social, sports, cultural, spiritual and social activities.
f) - Possibilities and conditions for participation of the study programme students in mobilities and internships (indicating contact details), application instructions, rules for recognition of this education.
9. - Required abilities and admission requirements for the study programme applicants
a) - Required abilities and necessary admission requirements.

Requirements for applicants and methods of their selection are stated generally in Sections 56 to 58 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. (Act on Universities). A basic condition for admission to a bachelor's degree or to study a study program according to § 53 par. 3 of this Act is the acquisition either of complete secondary education or complete secondary professional education. All conditions for the admission of foreign students are identical with conditions for admitting the citizens of the Slovak Republic. However, the complete high school education obtained abroad must be nostrified (granted recognition) in the Slovak Republic and the relevant supporting documents must be submitted to the study department timely.

Applicants for the bachelor's degree program Teaching Chemistry in combination are welcome to posses a high school graduation exam in at least one subject from the educational fields Mankind and Nature and also having good communication skills and good interpersonal relationships.


b) - Admission procedures.

Each year the Academic Senate of the PF JSU approves additional conditions for admission to the study of study programs ensured by the faculty, which are submitted to the dean in accordance with § 57 par. 2 letter f of Act 131/2002 Coll.) of the Act on Universities and Amendments to Certain Acts (hereinafter the Act on Universities).

The admission procedure is a process enabling an applicant to prove that the required conditions for admitting to study have been met and to become a student of the selected study program at a university. An applicant failing to demonstrate the fulfilment of basic conditions for admission to study at the time of verification may be admitted to study conditionally under the obligation that the fulfilment of the basic conditions for admission to study are met latest on the day designated for enrolment. The admission procedure for study begins with the delivery of the applicant’s written application for study to the university or faculty offering the relevant study program. The university can enable the application delivery in electronic form instead of a written application. Access to the electronic application is available on the university's home page (https://www.ujs.sk/sk/prihlaska.html). In the application, the applicant provides the required data and documents the necessary documents required by the university in accordance with § 57 par. 1 of the Act on Higher Education and an application in accordance with § 57 par. 4 of the Act on Higher Education.

Admission to study is decided by the faculty dean based on the recommendation of the admission committee, in accordance with conditions set for admission. The decision on results of the admission procedure will be provided written form within 30 days from the verifying the fulfilment of admission conditions. The document includes a statement, its justification and instructions on submitting a request of reviewing the decision when needed. The document is delivered to applicants by postal services. For applicants with unknown residence their decision is made public on the official notice board of the college or faculty for 15 days. The last day of this period is assumed to be the delivery day.

 

As part of the open-door day that organized by JSU for interested parties every year, the university provides extensive information to study applicants about study options at JSU that are available also on the website of the university as well as of individual faculties.

10. - Feedback on the quality of provided education

The J. Selye University strives to involve students actively in the evaluation and improvement of study programs and the teaching process. At the Faculty of Education at JSU, evaluation of the quality of teaching is carried out every year, namely the evaluation of the subject and the evaluation of the teacher's approach to the educational process. The evaluation takes place at the end of each semester via the academic information system in the form of a questionnaire, anonymously, whose evaluation is voluntary on the part of the students. As part of this evaluation, students have the opportunity to evaluate the given subject, comment on its relevance, usefulness in connection with a specific study program, and its applicability in practice. The teacher's approach, preparedness, overall appearance, openness to students' questions, effort to help, correctness, comprehensibility of interpretation, consistency and objectivity in evaluating student performance are also evaluated. The evaluation is carried out according to the following point scale: very good (1), good (2), average (3), below average (4), bad (5) and also by verbal expression of the students' opinion.

The results of the evaluation of student feedback are the subject of discussion at individual departments and faculties. The results are also part of the annual reports that are presented to scientific councils and academic senates, which include students themselves too.
